OC's job growth
Jeff Collins reports that OC's job growth according to the EDD was 1% for 2006. Of course there were contractions in construction and real estate related industries as those industries have seen rapid growth the last few years coupled with the slow down in the market it is to be expected. Two are things worth pointing out. First was the growth in manufacturing not seen since 2000. I think Ceradyne's recent military orders may have contribute to that more than the falling dollar. The second was the 5.1% growth in employment centers and temp services. This seems unusual to me since the employment rate was at a low 3.2%. Do they know something we don't or could this be an increase in independent contractors from the RE industry who weren't counted for in the employment stats because they were ICs?
